WhatsApp stops supporting Apple iPhone 3G

WhatsApp has admitted that they can no longer support the Apple iPhone 3G model.

This is largely because Apple has killed support for this phone in the latest version of Xcode which they need to use to develop the app.

A company representative said in a statement:

The iPhone 3G has a special place for me in my heart – it was the first smartphone I bought in January of 2009 and it was the first phone on which we started developing WhatsApp just a month later. Then as now, however, we must follow Apple’s lead on all things related to the iPhone. Their pace of innovation has a price of forced obsolescence.

Apple iPhone 3G was of course the second generation iPhone launched in 2008.
