Wikipedia manages to take in $20 million in donations!
We have seen a lot of articles criticizing and even mocking the donation drive undertaken by Wikipedia in the last couple of weeks.
The strategy worked well for the organization as they managed to collect $20 million in donations from around 1 million donors.
This is a record for the Wikimedia Foundation which runs the project without any advertising or sponsorship.
Wikimedia Foundation executive director Sue Gardner said:
We’ve hit our target. Thanks to you. Over the past few months, more than one million people have come together from all over the world to keep Wikipedia and its sister sites alive and flourishing for another year.
