Windows 8 growth slows down. Currently at around 2.26% market share.

Microsoft is no longer offering the discounted upgrade offer for Windows 8.

And analytic companies are reporting that the initial craze has already calmed down with it showing modest growth currently.

As per the latest statistics, Windows 8 has a market share of just around 2.26%.

Windows 7 dominates the market with a market share of around 44.5%.

The problem area for Microsoft remains Windows XP which still has lots of fans and users. In fact it is the second most popular operating system even today with a 39.5% market share!

Net Applications claims that Windows 7 did much better in comparison to Windows 8. By this time after launch, Windows 7 had a 7.7% market share but that can largely be contributed to the massive failure that Vista turned out to be.

Windows 7 has a solid reputation similar to Windows XP. Microsoft is going to find it hard to get users to upgrade from 7 because it just works for them!
