YouTube now has skippable ads enabled on their mobile apps

YouTube has revealed that they have expanded the TrueView in-stream campaigns on mobile devices.

This means that YouTube is now offering skippable ads on videos that are being watched on smartphones.

Google said:

With TrueView video ads, we’ve developed a model where user engagement matters — people can skip ads they aren’t interested in after five seconds. Giving viewers choice over ads they watch has lead to a better, more engaged viewing experience, benefiting the entire YouTube community of users, partners and advertisers. TrueView in-stream ads tend to earn equal or higher revenue compared with standard video ads. And since they now comprise the majority of the video ads on YouTube, TrueView allows you to access a broader base of advertisers.

YouTube has offered skippable ads on their desktop edition for a long time now. User gets a preview of the ad after which he retains the option to skip the ad to watch the video.

The idea is to offer a better experience to the viewer while making it cheaper for advertisers to run campaigns on their platform.
